DANGEROUS POLITICAL POLARIZATION IN AMERICA. AN ACTION TO THE RIGHT (TEA PARTY) PROVOKES A REACTION TO THE LEFT (OCCUPY WALL STREET)

Mensaje por Lazaro Morera el Dom Oct 09, 2011 12:16 pm

I am very concerned about what is going on in America. I have discussed the dangers of "my way or the highway" we saw by the Republican dominated tea party during the "raise the debt cealing" debate.

Who is behind the "Occupy Wall Street Movement"? Many liberal greoups with some legitimate concerns, but among them, the COMMUNISTS in America who want to destroy democracy in our contry by means of fanning the flames of class warfare. Lets separate the difference between a progressive income tax system (we have had it for decades) and class warfare.

I have no doubt that the tax system needs to be reformed by eliminating some of the loopholes it contains. The tax rates need to be lowered, specially for small business in order to generate employment. The social security system needs to be reformed, NOT BY PRIVETAZING IT UNDER WALL STREET, but by increasing the retirement age gradually to preserve it.

What are the short term results of the cuts in social programs (social security, medicare, and medicaid)? Misery for millions of Americans.

Americans have contributed to social security and both political parties have raided the social security fund to balance the budget. The social security fund should have been paid interest on the money taken out of it thru the years by both political parties.

I consider myself a moderate. I see a tremendous need for MODERATION in both political parties in America, so that the political system will be able to work again by means of COMPROMISE.

"My way or the highway" WILL NOT WORK and can take the homeland into the most dangerous crisis threatening the surval of democracy.

My friend Mr. Morera, I have to respectfully disagree with your appreciation of the root causes (and reactions to) for the ongoing mass protests around our country.

I tend to believe that this just one more manipulation from the left to radicalize and capitalize on the profound division brought about by the erratic economic measures of the current administration and YES it is a calculated response from the homefront COMMUNIST comrades to the Tea Party Movement predicaments and its enormous and almost instantaneous acceptance among most of deeply worried and frustrated americans watching as the Obama's government try unsuccessfully to implement ill-fated, left leaning policies that have only deepened the marass we all are in.

Tell me, do you really think that the solution to all our maladies is to bring down Wall Street? Do you think that "Spreading the Wealth Around" will make us richer? I am the owner of a struggling small business and I can tell everybody willing to listen what small business really need to improve, expand and hire new employees thus giving the economy a much, much needed boost. Certainly what we, small business owners, think is needed is more in line with what the great Ronald Reagan did than what this "goin' nowhere" administration is doing, hopefully there is only more year left for them to start packing.

Just to finalize my thoughts I'm copying something an old sailor wrote Mr. Obama that if not directly related to the core of this post summarize what we all are thinking (even those marching and protesting).

Best regards, Glezbo.

WW II Battleship sailor tells Obama to shape up or ship out.

This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.

Dear President Obama,

My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don’t believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.
I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos’n Mate. Now I live in a “rest home” located on the western end of Pearl Harbor , allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.

One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man
.
So here goes.

I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.

I can’t figure out what country you are the president of.

You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:
” We’re no longer a Christian nation”
” America is arrogant” – (Your wife even
announced to the world,” America is mean-
spirited. ” Please tell her to try preaching
that nonsense to 23 generations of our
war dead buried all over the globe who
died for no other reason than to free a
whole lot of strangers from tyranny and
hopelessness.)

I’d say shame on the both of you, but I don’t think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.

After 9/11 you said,” America hasn’t lived up to her ideals.”
Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British? Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War? I hope you didn’t mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom.

I don’t think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.
Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man.

Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don’t, I’ll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue . You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.

And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don’t want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts , who was putting up a fight? You don’t mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don’t want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists

One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, but you’re the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you’re not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you’re thinking of.

You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president.

You’re not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That’s not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now.

And I sure as hell don’t want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle…

Sincerely,Harold B. Estes.

Dear Mr. Glezbo:

I do not believe in "spread the weath around",but I believe that the tax rates we had whern Mr.Reagan was our president are better than the tax rates we have now resulting from the Mr. George W Bush tax cuts. The republicans will NOT accept any tax increases. Tea party pledge.

There are many things I do not like about the Obama administration. For instance, the end of don't ask dont, tell. The increased abortions that may result from Obama care. There is a need to provide health coveragere to the uninsurable having pre-existing conditions, but cutting seniors' medicare to do it was not right. I do not like Obama's policy towards Cuba. The stimulus funds were not spent correctly, these funds could have been spent much better by improving infrastructure (roads, bridges etc).

Obama can take credit for is killing Osama Benladin and other terrorists using drones in Pakistan and Afghanistan. I also favor bringing most of the troops back from Iraq and Afghanistan.

As I mentioned before the tax system should be reformed by eliminating loopholes (subcisies to the oilk companies which do not need them, subcidies to produce ethanol, etc.)

Bush and Obama helped the banks, and there were no strings or controls attached to such help. Americans have the right to demand better from the baning industry and Wall Street.

I would like to cast a vote for a Republican presidential candidate, but so far I have NOT seen anyone with good solutions. For instance:

1) Privatize social security. How can we give Wall Street such a gift?

2) Eliminate Medicare as we know it by giving vouchers to medicare recipients resuting in a huge cost increase in health care for seniors. How can we give such gift to the insurance industry?

c) Cains 9-9-9 tax. A sales tax or consuption tax. Will affect the middle class and the poor most. 9% sales tax added for food, utilities and gasoline ???? A flat income tax?????? You got to be kidding!!!

What I am saying is that both parties are moving to the extreme left and the extreme right. Most americans are in the middle and will vote for someone in the middle, but there is noone around in the middle to vote for.

Dear Mr. Morera, thank you very much for your replying to my post speaking out my mind, I would really like this to be the tone for the next Cuba's politicians if we cubans can agree once how to conduct our business for the betterment of our homeland.

We agree in one fundamental thing, we both think that Reagan Administration and its policies were one of the best things that happened to USA in the recent past and, if politicians can learn from the past, this administration can certainly use some going back to the classroom.

This much controversial and debatable Obamacare program is proving exactly to be a white elephant as feared, nobody can surely prove to have understood it fully, no one knows for sure if it is unconstitutional or not, no one can can say in their right mind if it is financially feasible without drastically changing (for the worst) our country tax laws and all this is fertile ground for the commies to harvest inevitable public unrest to their advantage, this have happened before and we are seeing it happening again, it's a time and time again proven strategy for the left to shake things up as needed under, and this is the case, a weak and erratic administration.

We still agree on the inevitable reform to our most complex (and prone to fraud because the many loopholes in it ) tax code and the "unfair" advantages given to the rich and the big companies but must keep in mind that they are the engines that set the wheels of progress in motion and generate those desperately wanted job opportunities that are key to economic recovery, just think why so many global enterprises have left USA - the most efficient and productive economy in the world - for emerging countries like China, India, Pakistan and not long ago Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia and so many others ..?? It happened not by chance, those countries have modified their laws to make them more attractive to the big money and therefore they followed them.

Definitely I believe the long term solution is not by harassing Wall Street and the big capitals that can and will GO WITH THE FLOW OF THE OPPORTUNITY as it appears in the horizon, of course I don't like extremes, I prefer something in the middle that works well for mostly everybody but I strongly think Obama's administration is doing what they can in the opposite direction of what should be done and therefore getting reactions to their actions.

We also share the same uncertainty about the right choices for 2012 elections but I believe some interesting personalities are emerging and one thing is for sure, Obama will face some stiff competition at the polling stations, we'll see it.

Best regards, Glezbo.
