Castronomics of Shock n' Awe

At Capitol Hill Cubans

Just when you thought you'd seen it all -- and heard it all -- from the Castro dictatorship, they always find a way to shock the conscience.

Comandante Ramiro Valdes, former head of Cuba's secret police and Vice-President of the Council of State, announced that the "Cuban people should not wait for 'Father State' to solve their every problem, acting like pigeons: open your little mouths and here's your food."

Seriously?

The Castro regime runs a totalitarian dictatorship
that owns and controls all means of production and distribution (orthodox Marxism), prohibits private enterprise and small business, and condemns the people to an absurd dual-currency system so that the State (the sole employer) can pay them in worthless pesos, while the regime absorbs all of the island's hard currency.

So what option exists to "Father State" in this totalitarian regime?

Considering that Raul Castro vowed, just last month, that he would not change the communist system or allow capitalism, it looks like they are ready to starve the Cuban people for the sake of totalitarian control.

Of course, this absurd discourse come on the heels of Raul's announcement that he'll tackle Cuba's cash crunch by eliminating a government lunch program that feeds almost a third of the nation's population every workday.

Instead, workers will see their salaries boosted by 15 worthless pesos a workday (.60 dollar U.S.) to cover their lunch.

And what can state workers purchase -- from state owned stores (adding to the endless spiral) -- for lunch with these worthless pesos?
Not much.

All of this nonsense, in order to try to monopolize power forever.

All this nonsense is adding up to the big picture of the no longer avoidable consecuences of five decades of economic pandemonium led by the quasi-god-like figure of Castro.

How they can pretend to erase the born-on-idea of a fatherlike state to take care of everything and anything for fifty years so embedded in the minds of modern-day cubans just because a third ranked figure like Ramiro Valdes said so..??

Let me tell them, you are facing a very brave up-hill battle specially within the younger generation growing up admiring not the old icons of the past (Che Guevara) but the very present figures of the so-hatred capitalism (Nike's, Adidas, Tommy Hillfiger, Calvin Klein and so on) so you better get ready to face reality or die trying.

Best regards, Glezbo.

Glezbo,

I agree with you. This is why I think that we must not open doors to this regime, now in dire straits. Chavez can't keep subsidizing Cuba, and the ones in line to take over Chavez is the present US administration. This is not a good time to open the flood gates, in my opinion, it is the time to close them even tighter.

My humble regards,

Definitely LoriG, the times are only good to put a pillow on the regime's head and help it die, the faster, the better.

The only Obama's decisions concerning Cuba I agree with are the ones easing access to internet, satellite TV and communications because cubans in the island hopefully will get real information about the world outside debunking long standing myths and putting our youth in synch with the future and new technologies not prone to easy control and manipulation by the regime (Twitter and similar social networks so useful in the recent Iranian student riots).

Best regards, Glezbo.

Glezbo,

The decisions concerning Cuba, with regards to the easing of internet and satellite TV, are cosmetic, as you well know, the Cuban government has not changed its restrictions on same. Cubans who have cell phones can't text outside of Cuba, and most Cubans who want to use internet, have to pay for it by the minute in tourist hotels and internet café, above that, most sites are restricted, therefore and consecuently rendering the internet almost useless, unless you're Yoani Sanchez, who has to phone her articles all over there world to very nice people who post them on her blog site.

He's(Obama) gotten into bed with the Castros, and denounces what is going on in Honduras, double standard or not? On top of everything ,he's turned his back on Israel and he's kissing up the rear of every subhuman specimen in a gubernatorial position around the world.

As far as I'm concerned, he's the worst president to be in office right now during these times, for the reasons stated above as far as Cuba is concerned, and for what is going on with regards to Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, not to mention Pakistan. I truely believe he's got plenty of potential to be worse than Carter.

I hope my country is not too upside down when his term is over.

Kind regards,

LoriG
