Castro's picture photoshopped

Mensaje por Wajiro el Jue Ene 29, 2009 11:43 am

The real story of the Fidel-Cristina picture Venezuela's El Universal newspaper carries a column on Thursday's edition by Nelson Bocaranda, with what it says is the real story of the photo released last week showing Argentina's president Cristina Fernández and Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

According to Bocaranda, who is a very well known Venezuelan investigative journalist, the information that he has received from Cuba and from Argentina's diplomatic sources indicate that the photo was a Photoshop job by they Cuban government.

It all began when Chávez spoke too much and said that Fidel Castro will never appear in public again. That, added to the fact that no "reflections" from Castro had been published in Cuba's official press in the last few weeks, increased the rumors that the Cuban dictator was dead or in critical condition.

That got Raul Castro very upset because the information was supposed to be secret.

What was even worse, it was the week when President Obama was being sworn in and one week before Raul was leaving for Russia.

According to Bocaranda, the Cubans began to complain and Chávez tried to fix the mistake he had made, saying that Castro was alive and that he had received a letter from him in the last few days.

But that didn't stop the rumors, and it was the reason why they came up with the idea of the alleged meeting between Cristina and Castro.

"One thing is to make up a meeting between two leaders, that never took place, but another thing is to falsify a photo like they have done," an Argentine diplomat told Bocaranda.

Chávez asked Cristina to take part in a "photo interview" with Fidel, during her trip to Cuba.

Raúl Eduardo Castro, who is Raúl Castro's grandson and chief of his uncle personal guard, was chosen as the "model" because he is about the same height and built as his uncle. He dressed with an Adidas outfit similar to the one that Castro has been using but of a different color, and posed next to Cristina.

Then, using Photoshop, they placed Castro's head on the photo and also one of his hands that was taken from a previous picture that was made a few months ago.

Bocaranda said that was the reason why only Castro's official photographer was allowed in the alleged meeting and also why it took 3 days for Cuba to send a diplomat to personally deliver the photo to Cristina. It is also the reason why the photo has not been published in Cuba's official press.

Bocaranda also mentions an analysis of the photo made by a newspaper in Argentina, Tribuna, which shows that the pixels on the faces of Cristina and Castro were different and that Castro's face looked very different from his most recent photos taken last November.

Why was Cristina willing to participate in this alleged fraud? The reasons, according to Bocaranda, were that Chávez agreed to a moratorium on the billionaire debt that Argentina has with Venezuela, and also agreed to pay US$1.3 billion to Techint, an Argentinean company that was part owner of a Venezuelan steel conglomerate, Sidor, that was recently nationalized by Chávez.
